David announced as British Racing Drivers Club Member

British racing driver David Pittard has been announced as a full British Racing Drivers Club member having met the qualifying criteria!

The GT Endurance Racing Star, who is a former BRDC Rising Star, has graduated to a full member having achieved the qualifying results across Ginetta GT4 Supercup, British GT, VLN and Intercontinental GT Challenge.

“Having seen a lot of my heros as members over the years, becoming a full BRDC member is an amazing achievement and I am hugely proud. I have a lot of people to thank for the opportunities I have been given that have lead to this achievement. I look forward to giving back to the club that has, no doubt, helped me in my career as a Rising Star to becoming a professional driver and full member”

In his first year as a BRDC Member, David will be contesting the Intercontinental GT Challenge, the world challenge for GT3 cars, with the BMW factory supported Walkenhorst Motorsport team and fellow BRDC member Nick Yellowly.

The BRDC is the most exclusive motor racing club, with members including the most successful drivers in the UK.

Membership of the British Racing Drivers’ Club is much coveted and very hard to achieve – it is only offered to those people who have met the high entry criteria and achieved the highest levels of motor racing or made a contribution to help others to do so in the sport.

The BRDC takes its responsibility as ‘Guardians of British motor sport extremely seriously. Not only does it maintain and operate the only circuit licensed to run a Grand Prix in Great Britain, it has also helped many young drivers to realise and develop their talent. These factors have undoubtedly contributed to Great Britain retaining its high profile and success in motor sport. This is a huge source of pride to the BRDC and its Members.

KX Akademy – Meeting the KX Finalists

This Saturday I was lucky enough to be invited to the “Meet the KX Akademy  Finalists” on the Saturday of the final British Touring Car Championship finals day at the Brands Hatch Kentagon. The evening designed for members of the public to get to know the 14 finalists in line for the KX Energy, KX Akademy scholarship in 2013.

We started the day looking around the circuit spectating the Porsche Carrera Cup, BTCC Qualifying and the Renault Clio Cup UK races, bumping into various friends and team managers, but the day was all about the evening, even though it was a friendly meet and greet with everyone at the Kentagon but I knew that I would be closely watched by all of the judges present.

I had a chance to chat to some of the finalists who are my friends which helped me relax before jumping up on stage as I was quite nervous, hearing Jason speak about his career and the Akademy was great to hear.

The finalists were invited up on stage in 3’s and I was on group 3 of the evening, and carrying  a can of KX Energy up on stage I completely relaxed and could have chatted to Alan Hyde and Jason all evening.  Although I was a little upset Alan’s first question was “what have you done since I last heard about you in 2010?” I had a chance to talk about all my great achievements since then! I was then asked about going forward in my career into the Porsche Carrera Cup GB and what I think stood out on my application to be picked into the final 12.

The rest of the evening was spent talking to the KX judges, David Beardmore, Jason Plato and his family all drinking lots of KX to round off a great evening! I would like to thank all of KX for inviting me to the event!

BTCC Silverstone with MG KX Momentum Racing

I was invited to the BRDC building for my interview with Jason Plato the most successful British Touring Car Driver ever and another representative from KX Energy drink, as well as 3 journalists from Motorsport News and Autosport. It was only a fast 30min interview how ever I felt I got the points I needed across and feel I did the best I could! There is now along wait until the final 6 are announced in January at the Autosport Show, so fingers crossed and there is time to start finalizing plans for the 2013 season! After my interview Jason invited me to come down to the MG KX Momentum Racing’s garage to meet with himself and see the BTCC team and car in action!

After supporting my Mum in her first 10k running race (in which she drank KX Energy to prepare!) both me and Dad headed up to Silverstone to see the racing. We both had a great day out in which we bumped into lots of old faces as well as meeting and be introduced into many new ones. I had a chance to speak to many teams and team owners introducing myself and putting a face to the many emails and phone calls I have been putting out.

We did manage to fit in watching some racing during our busy schedule! Mainly the Renault Clio Cup from one of our friends hospitality, and of course watch the second 2 BTCC races, with 2 fine performances by Jason unfortunately cut short in race 2 but an inspiring drive in race 3 from P20 to win! It was great to share the emotions from the 2 races and I would like to thank MG KX Momentum racing and 888 Engineering for having us! Looking forward to being down at Brands Hatch and hopefully all of next year!!!

David Pittard selected for prestigious KX Akademy final 14

David Pittard, the young Britcar race ace from Hertfordshire, has been selected to progress through to the final 14 of the prestigious KX Energy ‘KX Akademy’ bursary programme.

KX Energy, who sponsor the MG KX Momentum Racing team, has established the KX Akademy as a natural extension of their involvement in the British Touring Car Championship, with the aim of working with talented and enthusiastic up-and-coming drivers and riders who have already demonstrated their skill, determination and focus along with the raw talent and single-mindedness to succeed, but crucially lack the necessary funding and support.

Pittard, who received the news of his progression to the final 14 of the process from BTCC legend and KX Akademy mentor Jason Plato, will now face a grueling 30 minute interview process in front of the KX Akademy judging panel which includes Plato himself and a number of the UK’s leading motor sport journalists.

Said David “I was over the moon to receive the phone call from Jason Plato! I really didn’t expect to be hearing from him at all! I felt my phone ring and when I looked, it was an unknown number… after introductions ‘Its Jason Plato here’, I couldn’t stop thanking him for ringing me!”

“He spoke through terms of where we would go from here with the interviews and congratulated me for being selected. I wished him good luck for his weekend at Rockingham and ended the call. For the rest of the day working at Palmersport I was just buzzing!”

With the interview process taking place next week, David is now entirely focused on ensuring he is 100% prepared to take full advantage of a potentially career changing opportunity.

“So from now I have a week to prepare, I will be dedicating all my time to preparing myself for the interview and will be giving it my all.”

“I feel honored and privileged to have been selected by the panel of judges as one of the final 14 and it is the ideal opportunity to step forward in my career and I’m not going to pass it off lightly!”
