Pittard’s Pro Promotion for the Rowe Oil 6hrs of Nurburgring

David Pittard’s rapid rise through the VLN ranks continues has Walkenhorst Motorsport have placed him in the teams Pro category car for the 6hrs of VLN5.

David started his Green Hell journey at VLN2 in the slowest but one of the most hotly contested classes, the V4 class in a production spec BMW 325i, a top 5 was on the cards before a wheel hub fault cost them at the final pitstop, David then showed great pace in the also hotly contested BMW M235i CUP5 class with Walkenhorst to finish P4, before then making his GT3 debut in the BMW M6 GT3 with a podium in the Pro-AM class!

These impressive results at one of the hardest championships and circuits in the world have earned him the chance to share the Playstation backed BMW M6 GT3 in the Pro class for the VLN championship’s blue ribbon event! David will share the car with regulars Playstation Academy winner Jordan Tresson, Blancpain GT Asia champion Hunter Abbott & 2018 Spa 24hr winner Christian Krognes.

“I was over the moon when I received the email from Walkenhorst team manager Nic. All my preparation for VLN5 had been to maximise the Pro-AM entry that I had competed with at VLN4, however I’m pleased to have been entrusted with the Pro class car with 3 other top class drivers fighting for overall honours! This has been what I have been working towards, a shot to prove myself directly against some of the best GT drivers in the world! Let’s get it!”

Raceday starts at 08:30 CET with qualifying for 90mins, before the 6hour race starts at Midday until 18:00. Live coverage can be seen on the VLN’s YouTube channel here

David becomes brand ambassador for world leaders in car care Autoglym

Letchworth based International Racing Driver & Letchworth based Car Care giants Autoglym have partnered up in the trackday & motorsport automotive market after Autoglym selected David as part of their Brand Ambassador program!

Autoglyms nationwide search for ambassadors looked for car owners with a difference, from young classic car owners, show trucks, adventure Land Rover defender to day and his trackday Elise!

“Autoglym has famously worked with and supplied the motorsport industry to develop products for the automotive market. This stems over into the ever growing trackday market which presents its own problems when it comes to car care. A lot of transferable products used within motorsports can be used along with the more traditional automotive products all developed, manufactured and supplied by Autoglym.

It’s an honour to have been chosen to represent such a renounce international brand in the motorsport industry. When working in motorsport it’s a huge bonus to work with brands that are directly linked to automotive & motorsport industries as they get it.

Autoglym and I have a similar synergy as we’re taking on the best in the world in both our sectors with the aims of only being & remaining at the top!”

Podium on VLN GT3 debut for Pittard & Walkenhorst Motorsport!

English racing driver David Pittard scored a sensational podium on his GT3 debut at the formidable Nurburgring Nordschlife at the 4th round of the 2018 VLN championship driving aboard the Walkenhorst Motorsport BMW M6 GT3 in the Pro-Am SP9-PRE class.

A very warm race meeting greeted the 190+ cars & 400+ drivers on the 7th July in the Eifel mountains, the perfect weekend for David to try GT3 machinary for the first time, having signed with Walkenhorst for the remainder of the 2018 VLN season!

Having already competed in VLN2&3 at the wheel of BMW machinary, abit not at the performance level of the meanacing M6 GT3 car, David was hugely excited & focused to grasp the fastest machinary around the Green Hell, now traveling at almost 2mins per lap faster than when he debuted on the Ring at VLN2!

Testing on the Nurburgring GP circuit Friday morning gave David valuable laps to adapt quickly to the added, power, aero and complexity of BMW’s best GT3 car offering, before adventuring onto the full Nordschlife for the training session in the afternoon!

“Even getting behind the wheel of a GT3 car is a dream come true. Its something I’ve been working towards for a long time and its didn’t dissapoint! The car is effortlessly fast, especially in medium & high speed corners, taking everything that you throw at it and shrugging it off daring you to go faster! The ABS & TC didn’t talke long to get my head around, however the aero did, a car that big shouldn’t feel so nimble at high speed! An awesome feeling! It was good to get 30 laps running on the GP circuit on Friday morning to prepare me for the Nordschlife later that day!”

Testing on the Nordschlife didn’t run to plan after a gearbox drama cut down to minimum running on the Nordschlife, Walkenhorst the BMW customer team were ontop of the problem during the session, meaning the car was fixed, tried & tested going into qualifying early Saturday morning.

David was nominated to run first in Qualifying to set the benchmark time for the #36 Total Lubricants supported car that he shared with VLN veterans Rudi Adams & Andreas Zigler. With the qualifying compound Yokohama tyres only good for 2laps, David had to characterisically learn quickly and get upto speed ASAP!

“Qualifying was eye opening! With 180+ cars on track its notoriously hard to get a clear lap to show your true pace, you just have to make the best of the traffic and put together your best lap! With testing being limited on Friday, I just had to try to apply all my prep work and try it for myself! I was happy with my time despite loosing 6seconds in traffic which set up us well for the race!”

Ultimatly Rudi Adams would set the qualifying time for the #36 Total car, good enough for P5 overall!

Andreas would take the first 1hr 10mins stint of the 4hour race, bringing the car back in to hand over to David in P9. Once installed into the #36 car, David would be caught out in a “Code-60” slow zone meaning he dropped 50secs to the top5. David then spent the remainder of his 7lap stint chasing down the time lost to box from P7 overall to hand over to Adams to complete the race finishing with a double stint.

“It was a shame to loose the time we did. Its something outside our control so we can’t get to mad about it. It did ease me into the race though, I had my own space to learn how to navigate the traffic and get upto speed as now I’ve only completed 10laps of the Nordschlife in a GT3 car! Going up against the likes of legends like Frank Stippler & Sabine Schmitz in my very first stint might not have gone so well. So I’m happy to have got into my groove then pressed on and made some time & places up! I didn’t want to get out the car as every lap I was driving better & faster!”

Adams would comeplete the 4hrs P8 overall and P3 in the SP9-PRE class, adding a bonus to the objectives of the weekend of gaining experience and having a clean stint!

David now has a 5week break before jumping back in the BMW M6 GT3 for the blue ribbon VLN5 6hour event on the 18th August where an extended race length will allow David to gain valueable mileage and the chance at both overall and class honours!

Pittard ready to tackle the Green Hell with Walkenhorst M6 GT3

26 year old David Pittard has signed with Walkenhorst Motorsport to pilot the Total Lubricants BMW M6 GT3 for the remaining 5 VLN races for 2018 as part of a 3year plan to compete in the VLN.

The Autoglym, XPEL, VBOX brand ambassador follows his success in Ginetta GT4 Supercup and British GT championships with a career changing opportunity to race at the 14 mile long world famous Nurburgring Nordschlife in Germany.

After discussions with, among others Andy Wolfe and Graham Wilson, with whom David had raced very successfully in Historics during 2017, David decided to go for the big step of both GT3 and The Green Hell of the Nurburgring Nordschleife! David acknowledged: “With the help of Graham’s law firm in Luxembourg I was able to make the contacts necessary to get me on track.”

Having completed the Nordschlife A Permit at VLN3, with Walkenhorst with a P4 in class in the highly competitive Cup5 BMW M235i Racing Cup, David now looks to this huge opportunity in his career to compete against factory supported teams and drivers.

“This is my big opportunity in my career. I’m ready to sink or swim. I’ve always won in anything I’ve driven straight away, never needing time to learn. I’m not under the impression I will do that here as quick as previous championship, but I believe I have the ability to mix with respected factory drivers and work with factory engineers. I can’t thank the people behind this opportunity that are helping make it happen, and am determined to repay their faith”

VLN4 kicks off 07/07 with a 4 hour race, David will be sharing with Walkenhorst regular young guns Alex Lambertz & Immanuel Vinke who combined have great knowledge of the M6 GT3 in The Blancpain Endurance Series and racing VLN on the Nordschlife.

“The whole team is excited with this combination. The team has many year experience competing at the Ring, the car is a proven winner around the Nordschlife, and we have 3 hungry young drivers all wanting a shot at the big boys.
I’m only here for professional & factory contracts which is at the end of our 3 year plan. If that happens sooner, then great!”

Wilson & Pittard make history as overall FIA Historic Sportscar winners at legendary Imola!

Luxemborg racer Graham Wilson and British co-driver David Pittard made history at the legendary Imola circuit last weekend by winning the FIA Historic Sportscar race overall in Wilson’s slower Bonnier class Chevron B8, a feat that has never been achieved before.

Wilson’s Chevron is by no means a slow car, however the 220bhp car is no match for the 600bhp+ Lola T70 monsters that share the grid, abet racing in a separate class, especially at a fast circuit like Imola!

Wilson started the weekend quickly re acquainting himself with the Chevron and learning the new circuit, guided by ARDS A driver coach David, and aided by the VBOX HD2 system installed into Wilson’s Chevron.

“Imola is a fantastic circuit, steeped in history, for good and bad, but a proper old school classic circuit, and in April it was nice to have to 20degree plus heat! The Bonnier class was well supported this year with both new cars and old cars coming out to race which made the weekend great! Graham drove fantastic in qualifying, probably the best I have seen him drive ever and his time was good enough for P2 in class which made us strong for the race!”

David put the Chevron on pole in class and 6th overall on the first FIA Historic Sportscar grid of the year to contest the 60min race. Wilson would start the race and would hold the class lead for the majority of his 30min stint, only loosing the lead after a small off track excursion before regaining the lead a lap later just as the safety car would be deployed.

Graham handed over to David in class lead, so David kept up his blistering pace from qualifying to chase down the cars ahead for overall position. In a messy 2nd ½ of the race, David mainly avoided accidents to slowly climb the overall order eventually finishing P2 overall and P1 in class! An already awesome achievement!

“Graham drove a great 1st stint and carried on his fantastic pace from qualifying. Just 1 small mistake but he put that right very quickly. In my stint it was chaos, you could tell it was everyones 1st race back in a while, with lots of mistakes! So I kept my nose clean and picked up the pieces to bring it home for a fantastic result to start the year with!”

Later in the evening, it was announced that the overall winners had been excluded from the results, promoting the Wilson/Pittard pairing to the overall win! Something that hasn’t been achieved before!

This was the pairings only confirmed outing of the 2018 so far. Watch this space for further developments!

Pittard forced out of British GT return!

David Pittard will not return to the British GT championship this year due to lack of time to confirm sponsorship funding for the 2018 Season.

“It’s with a heavy heart that I must make this announcement, however when you are at the mercy of other people and their commitments and priorities there is little more I could do.

I would like to thank everyone that supported me during our crowd funding campaign, however there was too big gap to bridge in the short amount of time that we had.

I also want to thank Nathan from Century for all the help and support that he’s given over the winter to try and put this deal together, we came so close! I wish him all the best for the year ahead and look forward to seeing how the M4s run this year in British GT”

David will compete at the opening round of the FIA Historic Sportscar championship at Imola in 3weeks time with 2017 co-driver and car owner Graham Wilson.
