Pittard crowned champion of the Nürburgring

A bitter sweet ending to the 2020 Nürburgring Langstreke Series saw the final double header race weekend cancelled due to COVID-19 restrictions, however for David Pittard and the Walkenhorst Motorsport team, it meant that they were both crowned champions of the Nürburgring in the SP9 PRO and ROWE Speed Trophy championships!

The #34 car dominated the SP9 class with 4 from 5 podiums and didn’t relinquish the championship lead all year after winning the opening race of the year!

As David was the only full time driver in the #34 car throughout the year meaning wasn’t able to share the SP9 PRO Drivers with his teammates Christian Krognes, Mikkel Jensen and Jordan Pepper, however their contribution enabled Walkenhorst Motorsport to take the ROWE Speed trophy championship for the car that amassed the most points in the overall classification.

“I am hugely happy for everyone involved in this achievement, a huge thank you to everyone at Walkenhorst for putting their maximum into making this result happen and a huge thank you to our team partners Yokohama and Total for their support in this program.

Even though it was a shortened season, I think its safe to say that the #34 car dominated the season and it was a convincing championship win. An 80% podium success rate showed that our package of team and drivers were quick, experienced and didn’t make any mistakes, which given the level of competition and how tough the Nordschleife can be, is a great achievement. A big thank you to my super talented team mates for their skills throughout the year!

It’s also great for BMW Motorsport, who also won the Nurburgring 24hrs this year with the M6 GT3, to get a clear sweep of titles by achieving the ROWE Speed Trophy and the SP9-PRO drivers championship also!”
