British GT racer and graduate engineer David Pittard has been engaged by Wolfe Historic Racing for the 2017 season to assist with race preparation and development. David has been looking to add historics to his racing CV for the past year and now has the opportunity to work together with Wolfe clients in data analysis and performance enhancement. He will also have the opportunity to hone his own driving skills in some first class historic race cars.
Andy Wolfe said: “We are always pleased to find young talent and help them develop. We had a good look at David when he joined us in some pre-season testing and we were impressed both by his ability and by the way he fitted in to our team. Having a cohesive and efficient working atmosphere, within a competitive and high pressure racing environment, is probably the single most important goal for Wolfe Historic Racing, and we work very hard at maintaining this. I think that David has shown that he can fit right in and make a positive contribution. “
Initially David will join with Graham Wilson in his Wolfe Historic Racing prepared Lotus Elan 26R in the Masters Historic “Gentleman Drivers” series. Graham said: “I’m very pleased that Andy Wolfe has been able to bring David on board. David is a fine young engineer and a very talented driver and I’m sure that having him available to assist in race preparation and at race weekends will be a great help. Its always good to bring the latest ideas and knowledge together with tried and tested ways of doing things; that way we all can benefit.”
David said: “I’m very excited to be partnering with Wolfe Historic Racing. They have a well deserved reputation as first class engineers and preparers and have been giving their clients winning cars for many years. They also have a great team of mechanics who have the hands on knowledge that you simply can’t learn in a classroom. I am very flattered that they believe I can bring something to the party. The Elan R26 is one of my favourite historic cars as it is a real giant killer I’m very excited to be partnering with Graham, who is very experienced in historic racing with the Elan, as well as having a very determined attitude in competing against the best! This extra seat time will also compliment my full time entry in British GT.”
Wolfe Manufacturing Limited, which owns Wolfe Historic Racing, has a long established reputation as a high quality engineering company, supplying parts to motor racing and aerospace. Andy Wolfe, both as an engineer and as a driver, has made his name in running race winning cars at every level of historic racing including: the Goodwood Revival, the Spa 6hrs, the Silverstone Classic, The Old Timer Grand Prix Nurburg and The Historic Grand Prix Zandvoort.
Masters Historic Racing is one of the foremost organisers of historic racing in Europe, if not the World. It includes the FIA Masters Historic Formula One and FIA Masters Historic Sports Cars championships, both of which they organise on behalf of the FIA. In addition they have several series of their own, catering for sports, GT and touring cars; visiting iconic circuits such as Barcelona, Zandvoort, Nurburgring, and Spa Francorchamps.
David’s personal racing priority for 2017 is the British GT championship, where he will be competing in a Lanan Racing prepared Ginetta G55 GT4 car with co-driver Alex Reed. Fortunately there is just one clash in race weekends, David will only miss the Brands Hatch round of the Historic Masters Gentleman Drivers as he will be at Snetterton for Round 3 of British GT.
